About ‘Ter Worm Castle (Heerlen South Limburg)’ by Marcel de Boer

Ter Worm Castle is a castle located near the Dutch-Limburg town of Welten, a district in the municipality of Heerlen. The castle is part of the Ter Worm estate of the same name, which includes the Eikendermolen.

For most of the 20th century, the castle and its estate were owned by the Oranje-Nassau Mine. Under the estate lies the corridor system of the former coal mine. Overseers, artists, the forester and the lifeguard lived at the castle during that period. Near the castle at the time was a large outdoor swimming pool, where entire generations of Voerendalers and Heerlen citizens learned to swim. After the mine closure, government officials and the ON proposed to establish a large-scale amusement park on the estate. The people of Heerlen literally and figuratively ran afoul of these amusement park plans in a massive and widely supported protest march in 1983. In the last decades of the 20th century, the castle fell into serious disrepair until it was bought up by hotel chain Van der Valk. That restored the castle between 1997 and 1999. Now it houses a hotel and restaurant.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
