Climbing the lighthouse is part of a visit to Texel. From the tower, some 45 metres above sea level, you have a wonderful view of the Wadden Sea and Texel. The tower stands at the northern tip of Texel. If you go from the lighthouse due north to the North Pole, all you have is the sea. On the way up, you pass several presentations. There is information about why the tower was built and how it has operated over the past 100-plus years. During the war, the lighthouse played a central role in the 1945 uprising by Georgian prisoners of war stationed on Texel. In this, the tower was severely damaged. A new mantle was built around the old, broken tower after the war. On the fourth floor, you can walk between the two walls.
