About ‘The Abandoned Villa Castorada’ by Frans Nijland

An abandoned villa with priceless views over Lake Maggiore . It is unimaginable but this hilltop villa on one of the most expensive spots on the lake has been empty for many decades. The house was commissioned by a Russian noble lady at the end of the 19th century. Sold several times over the years, it is now reportedly owned by one of Italy's wealthiest families. It is already in an advanced state of disrepair, the plasterwork with the beautiful paintings already coming down in many places. So wonderful to walk around it and soak up the atmosphere but so sad to see such a great building allowed to fall into disrepair.
