In the early morning, as the first rays of sunlight glide across Milan's rooftops, Piazza del Duomo comes alive in a serene and magical silence that is rare for this bustling metropolis. This sprawling square, the beating heart of the city, stretches over some 17,000 square metres and provides the backdrop for the majestic Duomo di Milano, the cathedral that has watched over Milan for centuries. The morning air is crisp and clear, often with a light mist softening the contours of the surrounding buildings, while the soft, golden light illuminates the cathedral's white-pink marble façade like a heavenly vision.
