About "The Big Bang, the Universe, the beginning of our existence."

About the artwork

I have always wondered how everything came into being. The theory of the big bang currently offers the most plausible explanation for the beginning of time and space. The big bang took place 14 billion years ago and lasted only a fraction of a second, but had incredibly large consequences. The big bang theory shows that when it was created, the universe was a hot lump of energy and matter with an enormous density, billions of times smaller than an atom. It is almost impossible to imagine, but the big bang caused this tiny bit of matter to expand into the universe as we know it today.

That the big bang happened and formed the basis for everything we now encounter in space, most astronomers agree. But how and why the big bang occurred enigma. And what was there before the big bang? Was there 'nothing' at all then? One thing we do know pretty definitely: we as humans will not live to see the end of the universe. Whatever theory turns out to be correct, it will be billions of years before the universe possibly comes to an end. By then, our galaxy probably won't even exist. Scientists estimate that the Milky Way has about four billion years to live before we collide with our large spiral neighbour Andromeda.
