This work is based on the movie The Blue Lagoon.
The Blue Lagoon is a 1980 American romantic drama film starring Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins, directed and produced by Randal Kleiser. The screenplay, written by Douglas Day Stewart, is based on Henry De Vere Stacpoole's novel The Blue Lagoon. The music was composed by Basil Poledouris. The film is marked with the phrase: 'A sensual story about pure love'.
Children Emmeline and Richard are stranded on a tropical island after being shipwrecked. They're here with the ship's cook, Paddy. He is a rough sea boy who drinks too much, and eventually drinks himself to death, so the children have to save themselves. He does, however, give them two lessons. The first is a ban on entering the other side of the island, as there indigenous people sacrifice people to their idols. The second is a ban on eating a certain type of berries, "otherwise you will go to sleep and you will not wake up".
The children grow up in total ignorance of the rest of the world and do not understand anything about sexuality. Emmeline panics when she first starts having her period. Emotional feelings and physical changes arise when they become adolescents and fall in love with each other. They discover sex and eventually Emmeline gets pregnant, even though she has no idea she's going to have a child. Eventually a son is born, whom they call Paddy. They teach little Paddy to swim, fish and even play baseball, among other things.
