About the artwork
Along the Breton coast, nature shows its rugged side. The sky is heavy and grey, filled with dark clouds slowly passing over. The light is subdued, creating a sombre atmosphere. In the foreground, waves beat vigorously against the rocks, breaking up into white foam. The water moves back and forth incessantly, repeatedly clashing against the jagged coastline. The rocks are hard and unyielding, but the sea continues to attack with force and rhythm. This is a landscape where the influence of wind, water and time is clearly visible. Brittany here shows itself as it really is: rugged, rough and untouched. It is not a friendly scene, but rather an impressive spectacle of natural forces meeting and shaping the landscape. A coast that continues to fascinate, precisely because of its simplicity and strength.
