The Capri was introduced in 1969 at the Brussels Salon. It was Ford's attempt to sell a European variant of the Ford Mustang. Based on the Ford Cortina, the car was built in Britain (Dagenham and Halewood), Belgium (Genk) and Germany (Saarlouis and Cologne). Initially they wanted to use the Colt name, but it was already used by Mitsubishi. The car was sold with a large choice of engines.
