About ‘The Darcawi Holy Man of Marrakech’

Josep Tapiró Baró (February 17, 1836, Reus - October 4, 1913, Tangier) was a Spanish painter; best known for his watercolor portraits from Morocco.
Like many future artists, he had an early affinity for drawing. He took his first formal studies in 1849 with Domènec Soberano, a local wine merchant and amateur painter. In 1853, he and his fellow student, Marià Fortuny, had the opportunity to exhibit at an exhibition at the Casino de Reus.
