The Doge's Palace in Venice is, along with St. Mark's Basilica, the most famous sight in the city. Along with other sights such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the palace is also one of the most visited attractions in all of Italy. The palace is located in St. Mark's Square, a central location in the lagoon city.
The Doge's Palace in Venice was the seat of the Doge and the governing and judicial bodies of the Republic of Venice since the 9th century. The palace was the governmental and administrative center of the Republic and also a symbol of the greatness and power of the Maritime Republic of Venice.
Today, the building can be visited permanently and, in addition to the unique architecture, offers a glimpse into the lives of the city's former rulers.
