Perhaps one of the most photographed structures in the world, the 317-metre-high Eifel Tower in Paris. Gustave Eifel had two of his collaborators, engineers Maurice Koechlin and Émile Nouguier, design the tower on the occasion of the 1889 World's Fair. After interest in the tower declined after the exhibition, there were serious plans to just demolish it. As the tower was also used for communication purposes, demolition was abandoned.
On 28 November 2002, the 200 millionth visit was welcomed and today, the Eifel Tower has become the symbol of Paris with a prominent role in 2024 at the opening of the 33rd Olympic Games with a performance by Céline Dion, who performed again for the first time in five years with Édith Piaf's song l'Hymne à l'amour from the first platform of the Eifel Tower.
