In the heart of Berlin’s government district stands a building that exudes both strength and tranquillity: the Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus, part of the German Bundestag’s parliamentary complex. This photograph focuses on one of the most striking architectural features – the enormous circular window that appears to have been placed like an eye in the concrete façade. Designed in a modern and minimalist style, the building combines solid concrete with transparent glass. The contrast between these materials creates a powerful visual interplay. The sleek concrete forms a calm backdrop, whilst the large circular window symbolises openness and transparency. Behind the glass lie the reading rooms of the parliamentary library, where knowledge and information play a vital role in the democratic process. The symmetrical shape of the window creates an almost graphic image. The circle breaks through the straight lines of the architecture and immediately draws the eye. At the same time, the window offers a glimpse into the interior: staircases, floors and curtains form a subtly layered whole that adds depth to the composition. At the bottom of the image, a cyclist appears, small in comparison to the monumental façade. This human element gives the photograph scale and life. It shows how modern architecture is part of the city’s daily rhythm. The result is an image in which architecture, geometry and urban life converge.
