The Gerbrandytoren, named after former Minister President, P.S. Gerbrandy, also known as Zendmast Lopik, is a tower with a mast in IJsselstein, Utrecht (NL) for FM radio and television broadcasts. The tower was taken into use on January 17, 1961 and opened on 9 May 1961 by Queen Juliana. With 372 meters, the Gerbrandytoren has been the highest construction in the Netherlands for a long time.
Every year the tower is decorated with lights, making it the highest Christmas tree in the world. This can be seen in the wide circumference in clear weather at a great distance.
Usually the lights are staded in the weekend after Sinterklaas, so that everyone is back in the cozy atmosphere.
