The Hague, the city of peace and justice is the government city of the Netherlands. The city grew up in the Middle Ages around the Hof pond and the Binnenhof. The Binnenhof has been the centre of Dutch politics for centuries. Both the Dutch government and the royal house are based in the city. The Binnenhof was built to serve as a hunting lodge for the counts of Holland, who enjoyed hunting in what is now the Haagsche forest. However, the Binnenhof is not the only thing that makes the city fascinating. The old city centre, with its passage, square and main market street make the state an attractive attraction for tourists and travellers. Famous other spots in 's-Gravenhage are the Babylon shopping centre, the square, the Buitenhof and, of course, the Voorhout.
