You can also make a portrait out of a flower. Starry garlic (Allium Christophii, Star of Persia) consists of at least a hundred purple-green, 10 cm long stalks with a shiny star flower at the end. I found this photogenic, finely woven flowering bulb in a pretty bouquet in a dimly lit room It looked like a little planet in the midst of a leaf universe. I tried to capture that in this photo.
It didn't come out of thin air. The Hidden Life of Plants is one of my recurring themes. It fascinates me that flowers and plants live before our eyes while we barely notice them. By zooming in, by taking time and observing them, I discover time and again the little wonders that take place in a time other than our own.
The mysterious, dreamy atmosphere of this photo was created by using only the little daylight that came in. This is why I chose a lens with a large aperture, making the most of that little glow while blurring the background.
