You can also make a portrait of a flower. The purple arum is related to the lily. Strong and vulnerable at the same time, Mysterious too, because of its colour and the cup formed from the stem by that one artfully folded leaf.
The picture was taken as part of one of my recurring themes: The Hidden Life of Plants. It fascinates me that flowers and plants live before our eyes while we barely notice them. By zooming in, by taking time and observing them, I discover time and again the little miracles that take place in a time period other than our own.
For me, the arum is an enigmatic, proud flower. Like a powerful loner, it looms out of the darkness here, the veins on the velvety exterior and the polished interior. I wanted to capture that in razor-sharp detail.
