Together with my father, I spend a week in a hide in Sierra de Andujar, Spain, in the hopes of spotting the Iberian lynx.
The Iberian lynx is one of the rarest cat species in the world. They only live in a few mountain-areas in Spain and Portugal. Its diet consists almost exclusively of rabbit. Because of myxomatoses, almost the entire rabbit-population got decimated. Combined with the construction of roads, dissapearance of cork oaks and planting of eucalyptus resulted in near extinction for the species.
The lynx showed no glimpse of itself during the first three days. On the fourth day, the first lynx finally walks straight to the hide and dissapears again exactly after 20 seconds.
