This impressive work offers a unique view of the Kondo (Golden Hall) of the famous Tō-ji Temple in Kyoto, Japan. The Tō-ji Temple is an essential part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto'.
The work was taken through the open doors of a surrounding gate, creating a natural and powerful wooden frame. This frame leads the eye directly to the Kondo's massive wooden architecture. With its wide roof and traditional dark facades, the building exudes the grandeur of the early Heian period.
To the left and right of the hall are trees with vibrant green foliage, providing a nice contrast to the dark roof tiles and light grey gravel of the grounds. This work is a serene representation of Japanese Buddhist architecture and history.
