"The Leap into Eternity" tells the tragic story of Thunder, a stallion who was as big and impressive as a Friesian. Thunder had the same traits: friendly, lively, intelligent, eager to learn and loyal. Like a Friesian, he was a willing worker, with a cool head that made him suitable for rounds in the stables as well as for outdoor rides. Thunder excelled in dressage due to his high knee action and reliability.
Fate must have struck during an outdoor ride. Thunder's rider probably became unconscious after colliding with a low-hanging branch and fell off his back. We suspect Thunder tried to return to his stable but never arrived. Presumably, he chose a shortcut and got caught in the undergrowth on the other side of the lake. Tracks lead to that undergrowth, but what exactly happened to Thunder remains a mystery. Stories circulate, but one thing is certain: Thunder was never seen again.
