De Hef is the popular name for the Koningshavenbrug, a disused railway lift bridge over the Koningshaven in Rotterdam, which separates the Noordereiland from the district Feijenoord. The bridge was part of the railway line Breda - Rotterdam.
The two bridge sections on the banks date from 1878. The middle part was originally a swing bridge. However, this was a major obstacle for shipping. In the narrow passage several ships moored, in 1918 the German ship Kandelfels sailed against the pillar. This last accident was the decisive factor in the construction of a lift bridge to replace the swing bridge.
