The Urk lighthouse is an 18.5 meter high lighthouse on Urk. The current lighthouse was built from 1844 to 1845 and was raised by more than five metres in 1901. The raising was necessary because the Bethelkerk, enlarged in 1885, blocked the light to the east. The lighthouse is the only one along the IJsselmeer and the Markermeer that has a hurdy-gurdy light at its disposal. The Urk lighthouse is the only lighthouse in the Netherlands that rotates anticlockwise.
