I had never heard of the Maasduinen sheep, but I'm definitely a fan now that I've seen them in real life!
Just a few fun facts:
The nature reserve, The Maasduinen, after which the sheep are named, is the place where the breed originated. The animals were bred with a number of basic characteristics that they had to meet.
They especially wanted a sheep that, from birth, can cope well in natural areas and can be kept outside all year round, even when they have to be lambed. I was wondering if they could handle the cold.
These special animals deserve to be immortalized; so I decided to make a Dutch work of it. In the end, the whole thing is reminiscent of a cheerfully waving flag.
Part of the proceeds of this work will certainly go to Natuurmonumenten.
