Two famous paintings, namely Johannes Vermeer's Milkmaid and Rembrandt van Rijn's Night Watch, are united in this work. To do this, the basis used was the painting of the Milkmaid which was made wider and higher. Not an easy job because the floor and the tiles above it did not allow for easy reproduction. The original stove has been removed to direct attention from the Milkmaid, which is partly in front of Rembrandt's masterpiece, to the Night Watch. As a nod, an electric pendant lamp has been hung above the table, giving a pale glow on the wall and the milkmaid. Art of old masters united by a contemporary master.
