The Milky Way above Balanced Rock

by Frank Schröter Photography

A dense band of the Milky Way stretches across red rock formations. In the centre, the narrow base of Balanced Rock, with its massive rock top, stands out against the dark sky. A bright diagonal trail of light and numerous stars punctuate the vast expanse of stars. Low shrubs and illuminated rock surfaces lend structure to the foreground. A composition exploring the interplay between delicate celestial lines and imposing rock formations. Several separate groups of rocks stand on the horizon. The tall, slender Balanced Rock forms a distinct focal point, whilst broader rocks to the left and right frame its shape. Small green shrubs and light-coloured patches of ground fill the foreground. Above them, the bright band of stars stretches across the sky in a wide arc; dark areas in between lend depth to the sky and allow the individual stars to stand out.

The final version for sale was individually developed and retouched. The tranquil landscape and the vibrant sky combine to create an expressive composition. In landscape format, the tranquil forms on the ground meet the delicate textures of the sky. As a wall hanging, the photograph offers a contrast between bold rocky outlines and numerous small points of light. The diagonal trail of light adds a further accent. Red, green and dark blue connect the landscape with the vast field of stars. The existing signature remains part of the retail version.
