The NDSM terrain or simply NDSM is a district in Amsterdam-Noord or the former site of the NDSM wharf.
History
In May 1984, the NSM was declared bankrupt. The shipyard site came under the management of the Amsterdam-Noord district, which initially bet on conservation in the hope of preserving jobs. For another five years, former employees maintained the installations on the site to make a restart possible. In 1989, a candidate presented itself. Shipyard Vervako was able to get an order for three cargo ships. Its own site in Heusden was too small for that. However, while the yard was being made ready for operation again, a heavy storm raged over Amsterdam on 25 January 1990, damaging the gantry crane beyond repair. As a result, the plan had to be cancelled.
The four dug docks on the north-western part of NDSM had already been commissioned in 1987 by ship repair company Shipdock Amsterdam BV (from 2003 Amsterdam Ship Repair, from 2005 Shipdock BV, and since January 2015 Damen Shiprepair Amsterdam). (Source: Wikipedia
