Despite its name, the Oderteich is a dam. The reservoir is part of the Oberharzer Wasserregal cultural monument and was built between 1715 and 1722. In connection with the Rehberg ditch system, it once supplied the Andreasberg mines with water. This ensured that even in times of drought there was enough water for the operation of the driving arts.
Today, the Oderteich has lost this function and is part of the World Heritage Site of the Upper Harz Water Management.
