Taking city photos in fog is quite tricky. The blur, the small world, the mysterious atmosphere invite you to take pictures. But if visibility is too limited, they become searching pictures.
In this photo of the Old Harbour in Rotterdam, that worked out well. The stern of the ship on the right is nearby and therefore in sharp focus. The ships on the other side of the harbour are still clearly visible but already somewhat shrouded in mist. The reflection in the perfectly mirror-smooth water adds an extra dimension to the image.
The White House is no more than a shadow. And nothing at all can be seen of the modern towers behind it. As a result, this photo might as well have been taken a hundred years ago. And that is quite unusual in the centre of Rotterdam!
