About "The Oldehove, Leeuwarden"

About the artwork

The famous Dutch "tower of Pisa" stands in Leeuwarden and is called the Oldehove. In 1529, Jacob van Aaken started building this leaning, crooked and ultimately unfinished tower. A new church was meant to rise next to the Oldehove to replace the old Sint Vituskerk, but it never came to that. The tower was supposed to be over 120 metres tall. It was not easy for master builder Jacob van Aaken, as the tower was already leaning during construction. Attempts were made to build further on the leaning substructure at right angles, but unfortunately without the desired result. In 1532, Jacob van Aaken was dismissed and replaced by Cormelis Frederiks. Construction was halted in 1533 and never resumed. The tower never had any special functions. Nevertheless, the tower has become one of the most important symbols of the city of Leeuwarden. The people of Leeuwarden are proud of their Oldehove. "A'k de Oldehove niet siën ken, dan foël ik my onwennich", is a well-known saying in the city dialect.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
