A by me digitally restored and cleaned version of "The Sea of Satta" as seen from Suragaya Bay, Japan. This woodcut was made by Hiroshige, a famous Japanese artist from the 18th/19th century.
Hiroshige is best known for his landscape series in horizontal format The fifty-three stations of the Tōkaidō and for his landscape series in vertical format Hundred famous faces on Edo. The subjects of his work were atypical of the ukiyo-e-genre, whose typical focus was on beautiful women, popular actors and other scenes from the urban pleasure areas of the Japanese Edo period (1603-1868).
