About ‘'The Seagulls I'’ by maud blom

This watercolour painting depicts a scene of a flock of seagulls flying over a misty lake.

The greyish colours, the restless yet gentle waves, the misty trees in the background and the bustle of the flock of birds create a duality of tranquillity and melancholy.

'The Seagulls I' was created at a small desk in a little room in Groningen during the winter of 2022. Due to the lockdowns, life had been taking place online for two years already. By working on this painting, I was still able to dream of the freedom and the hustle and bustle of the outside world, which at the time still seemed so far away. At the same time, the image also conveys a pleasant sense of calm: the hope that better times will come. And looking back, we can now say that we have survived it. We are free again.

May this painting also be a place for you to experience that duality of tranquillity and restlessness, of freedom and melancholy. It’s all allowed.

When she later moved to Belgium for love, she took the plunge as a self-employed artist to pursue this passion.

As an artist, Maud specialises in painting maritime scenes featuring, amongst other things, ships, bodies of water and…
