The food of the Mute Swan consists mainly of water plants. With its broad beak, it can easily break down water plants. The Mute Swan never dives so deep that it goes completely underwater. Sometimes only the tail and hind legs can be seen, when the swan stands upside down and tramples with its legs to fish up the deepest plants (grounding). It also grazes on meadows.
