Tuscany (Italian Toscana) is a region in central Italy, bordered to the north by Liguria and Emilia-Romagna, to the east by Umbria and the Marches, to the south by Lazio and to the west by the Tyrrhenian Sea. The area of the Tuscany region occupies about one-thirteenth of the national territory, or 7.6%. In terms of size, the region ranks fifth, after Sicily, Piedmont, Sardinia and Lombardy. Tuscany comprises 6.1% of Italy's national population.
