The Urban Collection | Souk
I love oriental souks immensely. The atmosphere is always so cosy. It smells of herbs and spices, and hundreds of lamps twinkle in all colours. Whenever I travel through the Middle East, I always try to visit a souk.
During my visit to Old Town Dubai, I walked through such'a souk. A marketplace in the city's narrow, winding alleys. Cloths stretched between the houses kept out the burning sun. Here and there, the sun's rays fell between the textiles and fabric danced in the light.
The slippers in this photo were just a detail of all I saw in that souk. But the light fell on them so beautifully, and they glistened in the sun. the colourful slippers set the atmosphere of such'a souk very precisely.
I took this photo on the fly. The slightly grainy texture makes it just that little bit more atmospheric.
