The Way of Water by Color Square

The work depicts a tranquil landscape in which water, land and sky merge almost imperceptibly. A gentle, meandering stream flows from the foreground towards the distant horizon, forming the natural focal point of the composition. The soft grey-green hills on either side gradually fade into a misty distance, creating a striking sense of space and tranquillity. In the foreground, the character of the work changes. Here, the brushstrokes become thicker, freer and almost sculptural. Large areas of cream, beige and soft green lie like stones, sandbanks or weathered rocks along the water’s edge. The visible texture of the canvas remains deliberately present in various places, forming a beautiful contrast with the generous layers of paint. A small, almost black accent on the left in the foreground lends unexpected depth and keeps the soft composition visually balanced.
What is particularly striking is the way the landscape moves between figuration and abstraction. Up close, it consists mainly of brushstrokes, layers and shapes; from a distance, a serene riverside landscape unfolds. The understated colour palette gives the work a modern, natural feel and evokes associations with misty mornings, distant shores and landscapes where time seems to stand still for a moment.
