The Water Well 01_HMS:A water well is usually a dug or drilled hole in the ground to use groundwater. There are also wells that collect rainwater (cistern). They serve primarily for the supply of drinking water.
If the groundwater is located just below the earth's surface, which is usually the case in humid environments, the groundwater level can easily be reached by fairly simple excavation work. The dug well is then usually enclosed by bricks, so that the dug hole can remain narrow over the entire length of the well and does not collapse if the soil itself becomes wetter and therefore less solid. Such a well is called a well. Usually they are a few meters deep.
In the mountains the water flows down the mountain slopes. There the groundwater is usually trapped by waterproof layers of clay. If one then digs a well in a valley of such a mountain slope, the water flows into the valley and fills the well. Such a well is called " flowing groundwater wells ".
