Deventer is an old Hanseatic city located on the river IJssel in the Netherlands. The city has around 100 000 inhabitants and also attracts many tourists every year. Apart from the beautiful skyline on the IJssel, Deventer has a lovely city centre with many picturesque streets, beautiful buildings, and on the Brink square this beautiful Wilhelmina fountain. The fountain was erected on the occasion of Queen Wilhelmina's inauguration in 1898. The female statue on top of the pedestal represents Deventer's city virgin. She holds a laurel leaf in one hand and the city's coat of arms in the other. It has been a national monument since 1998.
