The black-tailed godwit has been declared the national bird of the Netherlands. From mid-February to July, this bird is in the Netherlands. The breeding season starts in mid-March. The black-tailed godwit is an endangered bird that is declining in population. This photo was taken in the Arkemheen polder near Nijkerk. An area where many black-tailed godwits reside. The black-tailed godwit in the photo is a female. These are slightly paler and slightly thicker and larger than the male.
