The canal at ?s-Graveland, Pieter Gerardus van Os, 1818 Van Os was commissioned in 1817 by Amsterdam merchant Herman Waller to paint two views of the village of ?s-Graveland, where Waller had a country house. He painted these from a window of Waller's house or from the local inn. The high vantage point produced an unusual perspective. The oblique view of the ?s-Graveland canal also offers a view of the garden, with the gardener and two dogs hidden in it. Rijksmuseum Rights: CC0
