La Seu - the cathedral of Palma de Mallorca. The Gothic cathedral La Seu is the landmark of the Mallorcan capital Palma de Mallorca. The church is one of the largest religious buildings in Spain. In this photo, it can be seen in an atmospheric long exposure at night.
The imposing La Seu Cathedral is a monumental building by the sea that was built over a period of several centuries. Construction began around 1230 on the orders of Mallorcan King Jaume I, after centuries of Arab domination on the Mediterranean island had come to an end. The mighty church stands on the foundations of a mosque. More than 350 years passed before the final completion of the nave and the main portal. The work was completed in 1601.
The building is almost 110 metres long and 33 metres wide. With a height of 44 metres, the nave is one of the largest of its kind in Europe. A striking feature of the church is the Gothic rose window on the east front of the building. It has a diameter of 12.55 m and was assembled from more than 1,200 colourful glass fragments.
