About the artwork

The eastern ridge of Mont Blanc and the Mont Maudit to its left are part of one of the routes to climb the roof of Europe. At first light of day the climbers are already well advanced and you will be able to distinguish 7 of them on this route and 10 on the opposite route on the western ridge (on the far right of the picture). It is 5:30 am on August 1st.

You don't know if those climbers will make it to the top. The wind is blowing strong at high altitude and lenticular clouds are forming rapidly over the passes, like halos heralding an early descent.

This pink light is blessed by the mountaineers, a sign of a new day at altitude; the bodies warm up under these first rays and the grumpy moods of the night calm down.

However, this beautiful and gentle mountain is not accessible today. This enchanting light will only be visible for a few minutes before everything is enveloped by a thick cloud bringing snow, wind and difficulties.

I particularly enjoy photographing the high mountains at these ephemeral moments. The colours and contrasts change from one minute to the next, the shades of blue and pink dance as if trying to push each other.
It is also a representation of the mountain that calls by its warm daylight, and at the same time pushes away by its imminent danger.
