The death of the Pharaoh's firstborn, Lourens Alma Tadema,
In this scene from the Book of Exodus, Moses and Aaron (top right) visit the pharaoh who mourns for his son. He died as a result of one of the scourges God sent to help the Jews leave Egypt. The darkness of the painting reflects the intense sadness of the father. Only after a long look can all figures and details be clearly distinguished.
