I first drew this portrait of a man in a few brushstrokes. Very rudimentary, so I put down a man wearing a hat; Then with a pencil I drew pitying eyes on a separate sheet which I glued onto the portrait. the result is that you see a man looking at you with pitying eyes. What is behind those eyes, I leave that for the viewer to ponder.
