A young girl sits on the floor, clad entirely in shades of green, her head slightly lowered - immersed in a moment of silence. She holds a small light source in her hands, which gently illuminates her face.
In front of her grows a group of tall, heart-shaped plants with fine, almost shimmering veins of leaves. The leaves not only seem to come from nature, but also from another world - too delicate, too quiet, too poetic for pure botany.
If you look more closely, you realise that the light in her hands is not clearly defined - it could just as well be a memory, a thought or a silent wish. The plants almost seem like living listeners, leaning towards her as if they want to give her comfort or whisper a secret.
The idea for this painting came to me one afternoon in central Vietnam. I had observed a girl sitting quietly at the edge of a garden, her hands in her lap, looking down - as if she was guarding something that no one could see.
