The current lighthouse was built in 1876 and, with some modifications, is still in operation.[2]
The lighthouse was automated in 1982 and is now owned by the community of Giske. The galley and tower are open to tourists from May to October, and the old keeper's house has a café and an exhibition space showing artwork by local artists. There is also a small historical museum in the lighthouse tower. Located just a 30-minute drive from Ålesund, it is easily accessible to visitors and is one of the most visited lighthouses in Norway.
