The play of colors, lines and shapes in this detail photo of a steel ship's hull makes me happy. A wonderful color combination of a turquoise-like blue, a pink area and a bit of red, with an accent in bright yellow to finish it off. There are some scratches and bumps that give the surface texture and there is a sloppy stroke of blue paint on the pink surface.
The number 42 of the draught mark, just above the weld between the two large areas of color, is done in relief. And then that number has also been emphasized with a lick of yellow paint.
Insiders know of course that 42 is not just a number, but has a special metaphysical meaning. Something about a computer that had to think for a very long time. 42 is the meaning of life, one might say. But explain that to people who have not read the book....
Anyway, even without that knowledge you can enjoy the colors, lines and shapes, spotted at Park Quay in Rotterdam.
