Between Dirksland and the Haringvliet lies the Sas van Dirksland. This double lock dating from 1791 served as a turning point, lock and outlet sluice until the 1970s. After the Delta Works took away the tides, the Sas became redundant for shipping traffic. Each year swallows nest in the lock doors. Since January 2002 the Sas van Dirksland has been on the National Monuments List.
