Sometimes a portrait begins as a stain. A stain that whispers: Let me emerge. This is also how she began. With pink blur, black scratchy lines and an intuitive stroke of bright yellow. No plan, no example. Only feeling. Only guts.
Mixed media is magic. Real. Layer on layer, rough and soft, wet and dry, chalk over paint, ink next to pastel. Everything dances. And then suddenly - there she is. A gaze that grips you, lips that almost move, cheeks that glow with life. She looks at you with a gaze that says: "I am here. And I will not be ignored."
I paint as I live: expressive, untamed, full of colour and without concessions. This portrait was created in layers - just like us humans. Everything is allowed to be visible: the flaws, the energy, the build-up. This makes the work powerful and vulnerable at the same time.
