On the island of Hornøya, on Norway's northern coast, the guillemot colony forms one of the most impressive bird colonies in the country, perhaps in the whole world. Thousands of guillemots nest here on the steep cliffs, where they sit close together for protection from predators. These slender, black-and-white seabirds spend most of their lives at sea, but return to Hornøya each spring to breed.
