Húsavík is a small town in northern Iceland on the east coast of Skjálfandi Bay. Húsavík means something like house bay, and the name is several centuries old. The Swedish sailor Garðar Svavarsson, after being swept up by a storm, unexpectedly came ashore around 875 and built a shelter for himself. He stayed there only one winter and named this place Húsavík. About 2300 people (2018) live in Húsavík.
