Dr Annette Schmucker worked as a doctor and taught herself to be an artist. She says of herself: "As a self-taught artist, I work with the awareness that I am not beholden to anyone. I don't have to strive for an "individual style" or paint in a certain direction. The only strict "judge" of my paintings is myself.
This great freedom gives me a lot of room for new ideas.
I love the variety in painting and am always exploring completely different themes and techniques. I very often work on many different techniques and pictures at the same time. I don't want to follow a single fixed line.
One thing my paintings have in common is their visual language and expression: my aim is to depict light, expanse and space.
I work with both concrete and abstract motifs and like to combine the two. I get my inspiration from colour, form, proportion and, above all, light. I am primarily interested in depicting light and space and ultimately a feeling of freedom.
